Friday, 2 March 2007 - The Catholic Italian Church decides to aid Lebanon

On Friday, the 2nd of March 2007, at 10:00 AM, the Armenian Catholic School Mesrobian, welcomed Father Andrea Sbarbada , The General Secretary of Faith Propagation Service of the Italian Episcopal Council, accompanied by Father Paul Karam, the National Director of the Pontifical Missionary Societies organization. The event was covered by journalists from the Italian  "SAT 2000" TV channel headed by Mr. Antonio Soviero.

His Excellency Msgr. Vartan Ashkarian, the President of the Directors Committee of the Armenian Catholic Schools and Father Kevork Yeghiayan, Chief Priest of the Patriarchal Clergy Institute of Bzommar, were also present during this visit.

 Father Andrea Sbarbada left a memorandum in the Golden Book of Mesrobian where he wrote "The Lebanese Armenian community has an important role in the Lebanese internal mosaic. This community, by holding on to its faith and national heritage was not only able to sustain itself , but also it was able to develop and  Mesrobian School is the greatest proof of this development."

The honorable guests left the school heading towards the Patriarchal Clergy Institute of Bzommar where they were welcomed by the chief Father and the members of the institute's committee represented by Father Vartan Kazandjian and Father Kevork Noradoungian.

The guests visited the seminary which was renovated in 2006-2007 with the support of the European Catholic foundations.

This committee is setting up the outline of a general plan which, in the future will bring the benefaction of the Italian Church to Lebanon, in particular to the Christian communities living there.
