Thursday, 2 October 2008 - His Beatitude Nerses Bedros XIX Leaves to Rome
On Friday the 3rd of October 2008, His Beatitude Nerses Bedros XIX Catholicos Patriarch of Cilicia for Armenian Catholics is headed to Rome to participate in the world Synod of Bishops that will be held between the 5th and the 26th of October in Vatican.
The 2008 gathering will be the 12th ordinary assembly of the Synod of Bishops since it was established by Pope Paul VI in September 1965 as a permanent institution for the promotion of greater collegiality between the world's bishops and the pope, as requested by the Second Vatican Council (1962-65).
The gathering which will discuss the theme: “The Word of God in the Life and Mission of the Church.“ will be presided by His Holiness Benedict XVI.
The sessions will be also attended by representatives of non catholic churches, experts of the Scriptures, religious and secular personalities.
During the coming month, His Beatitude will have meetings with Secretary of State Cardinal Tarisicio Bertone, the Prefect of the Congregation for the Oriental Churches Cardinal Leonardo Sandri and several of Vatican's high-ranked personalities.
His Beatitude returns to His residence on the 31st of October
