His Beatitude Nerses Petros XIX

Biography of
Basile Petros IV Avkadian
(1780-1788)

"The spiritual patriarch"

He was from Aleppo and also from St. Antoine's order. At his age, to be designated patriarch was a respect for his priesthood and for the help of the three previous patriarchs for forty years, whom thirty of them were in Bzommar convent. He was prudent, experienced and saint. "He never took off his monachal garment when he was bishop and catholicos".

Basile IV was attributed the patriarchal treaty organization. It was the constitution of honor constituted of 10 articles which were determining the conditions of cooperation between the patriarch and his bishops and drew the schedule of their apostolic activity. There, for example, was ordered to keep the patriarchal Seat in the East always and to work in order to build a seminary where the souls of the founders will be kept.
